1. Either/Or Questions for the True Fans

We’ve all been with a group of friends when someone starts talking about Harry Potter. Next thing you know someone else interjects with Lord of the Rings references. Let’s make some cash off this never-ending debate.

Put two tip jars out. One labeled Harry Potter, the other Lord of the Rings. Not your thing? Try Star Wars vs. Star Trek, Friends vs. Seinfeld, Batman vs. Superman.

2. Who Tips Better?

You can really get the tip jars filled up with this one. Pit men and women against each other in any arena and there’s bound to be a showdown.

Grab two tip jars and label one woman, one men. Add a sheet of paper above that asks, “Who tips better”?

Now all you have to do is sit back and watch the dollar bills (and coins) pour in. (And, of course, keep doing your actual job, too.)

3. One for the Haters

You can appeal to a shared dislike for a public icon. For example, it’s never too late to start making cash off all the Justin Bieber haters out there. Add a sheet of paper to your tip jar saying that every tip earns Bieber a roundhouse kick from Chuck Norris. You’ll surely fill up the jar by the end of the week.

If it doesn’t work, read your audience. Switch out Bieber for the Kardashians, Kanye, or pretty much any politician. Once you find the right person, you’ll know.

4. Give People a Laugh

Feeling a bit lazy? Not a problem. Keep it simple with your tip jar. People will pay for a laugh.
Add a note to your tip jar that says “Money is the root of all evil. Cleanse yourself here.”
Customers will get such a kick out of it, they’ll start handing over cash to you.
