The major players in consumer technology converged for CES 2023. Here are some of what was unveiled.

Key Takeaways:

  • CES 2023 had over 3100 exhibitors
  • Smart home technology was a major feature
  • Unusual and unpredictable products are part of CES’s fun

CES 2023 went by too fast. Produced by Consumer Technology Association, the annual CES event features exhibits from over 3100 exhibitors. Like every year, the event focused on technology – but 2023’s event had an extra layer of excitement attached to it.

With the last two CES events having been to virtual-only events due to the pandemic, this year’s event was a must-see! But who attended? What were some of the innovations to look out for? Here’s just a bit of what happened at CES 2023.

Some big brands attended

With a “who’s who” in the technology space in attendance, several big names made a big splash. Some of these included:

Samsung: The technology giant’s theme for this year’s CES was “Bringing Calm to Our Connected World.” Samsung intends to bring more smart technology to consumers’ homes rather than focus on bigger or better TVs.

Sony: With their theme “Moving People Forward,” Sony unveiled some truly remarkable innovations, including a concept for sports engagement through virtual reality; PlayStation VR2, the new VR headset for PS 5; and, notably, a 27-inch Spatial Reality Display prototype that reproduces the real world with 3D spatial images, displaying life-sized objects to images and designs can more easily and realistically be reproduced.

LG: In years past, LG has seemingly enjoyed toying with expectations at the big event. Included in this year’s reveals were the OLED M TV, the UltraGear OLED gaming monitor, and the ultraslim, ultralight LG gram laptop, weighing less than 1 kg and featuring an OLED display.

Potential big product reveals at CES 2023

TVs were big news at CES 2023,  but that’s not the only buzz in products surrounding the event. Computing, audio, and mobile phones also showed up big at CES. Here are some of the innovations that were introduced:

Razer Edge 5G: Razer announced the planned January 26 release of their new gaming tablet that works anywhere, giving it bragging rights over other brands, like Logitech G, Steam Deck, or Nintendo Switch. Its display is superior, too. Boasting a stunning 6.8 inchx2400x1080 AMOLED 144Hz display, it’s a major step up.

Micro-LED 4K TV technology: Samsung unveiled its long-awaited 89-inch screen MicroLED TV at CES 2023. While the rumored 101-inch TVs are still off in the mist-shrouded future, Samsung has finally started producing the 89-inch models after serious setbacks due to difficulty with the technology. The delays were caused by the 89-inch model’s LED chips, which are much smaller than those used in its existing models.

LG’s 97-inch Wireless OLED TV: Considered one of the most advanced TVs ever offered to the general public, this monster has amazing picture quality, but that’s not its most amazing feature. The big selling point? This beast is completely wireless. If you can afford it, this baby means you won’t have to fight to arrange and hide all those wires so you can’t see them.

Unusual products at CES 2023

At a tech event like CES 2023, attendees expect to see advances in televisions, computers, games, and other familiar areas. But CES is also known for seeing unusual products unveiled that you had no idea existed at all. Offerings from 2023 included:

Withings U-Scan: This little device provides you with a complete health report when you pee on it. No kidding – it’s designed to be installed right in your toilet bowl. Have a seat, do your business, and get a health report. It’s that easy. Once you’re done, your phone provides you with the health report. Who knew peeing could be so…informative?

BMW i Vision Dee’s HUD Display: When you see a concept car, you already know many of the features will never make it to the consumer level. But in the case of BMW’s latest offering, the company insists the most innovative feature of its i Vision Dee car will be coming to a dealership near you. The feature in question? The car’s entire windshield is a heads-up display. Looking some something straight out of Tony Stark’s arsenal, this display uses the full width of the windshield. And there are even different levels of immersion. From Level One’s basics (speedometer, some navigation) to Level 5’s total virtual environment.

Matter and smart home technology at CES 2023

Matter is expected to be the big buzzword coming out of CES 2023. For those who don’t know, Matter is an open-source interoperability standard that allows different companies’ smart technology to communicate with each other. It’s making the design and implementation of a smart home easier.

Dozens of companies are stumbling over each other to jump even further into the smart home technology space. Many companies are expected to completely upend their entire product lines to better align themselves with the emerging technology.

Here are just a few:

Amazon: The massive retailer is reconfiguring its Alexa app, Eero, and Echo devices to all be Matter compatible.

Leviton: The company’s entire line of plugs and light switches will be Matter-compatible with its Wi-Fi products.

Twinkly: Matter updates are coming to the company’s existing Wi-Fi products along with its new products.

CES releases and you
