Do you find yourself running behind most mornings? When you have to wake up early, shower, get dressed, eat breakfast, shave and/or apply makeup, and more, it’s easy to get stressed and not have time for all the things you have to do. Finding time to check traffic reports, read emails, watch the news, and more becomes very challenging.

That could all change with the Capstone Connected Thin Cast Smart Mirror. It’s an Android device with Google Assistant integration that allows you to complete your routines in the mirror while catching up on other things. Here’s a look at how it works.

Owning a Capstone Connected Thin Cast Smart Mirror is like having a tablet installed inside your mirror. It can show you the content you want right in front of you as you apply your makeup, do your hair, brush your teeth, shave, etc. Is it worth it? Let’s see.

How it works

When this smart mirror is powered off, it looks like a regular mirror. It has a durable anodized aluminum frame construction and comes with mounting brackets and hardware.

It uses a 120 Volt AC power adapter, and once it’s turned on, it becomes a fully-functional touchscreen tablet with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities. You can continue to use it as a mirror once it’s running, and the screen now provides access to all the apps and websites you frequent in the morning.

It offers users two experiences – Smart 1 and Smart 2 – each with different capabilities.

Smart 1: Thin Touch™ Technology

Capstone Connected’s Thin Touch technology is what turns the mirror into a tablet. The device comes preloaded with time, weather, and email. Its built-in web browser allows you to search the web, watch YouTube videos and tutorials, download apps, listen to music, and more.

Whether you want to watch the news first thing in the morning or catch up on last night’s sports scores, you can do it directly from the mirror while you brush your teeth.

Smart 2: Thin Cast Technology

The device’s Thin Cast technology allows you to cast your mobile phone screen onto the mirror, so the content from your smartphone is displayed on it.

This feature works well for casting music, television shows, and social media feeds. It works with Google Assistant, so you can use voice controls to access all these apps while you get ready for your day. Any user in your home’s Wi-Fi network can cast their screen, too, allowing the entire family to join in.

How is the quality?

This smart mirror has an 18.5″ display and weighs 19 pounds. It operates on the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi bands and connects to other devices using Bluetooth 5.0 and USB 2.0 + DP1.2, all of which are standard.

When compared to a high-end iPad, you probably won’t be blown away by the mirror’s performance. The device uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 665 processor and runs Android 10 with 4GB of memory. It also has 32 GB of storage.

What does this mean? The mirror is great for streaming apps, reading content, and playing music, but it isn’t for playing video games or watching movies in 4K. The picture quality is a little subdued, too, which you might expect based on the screen’s location inside a mirror.

Part of your smart home

If you’re interested in smart home technology, the Capstone Connected Thin Cast Smart Mirror is another device you can check out. While the product isn’t perfect, it serves a valuable purpose for busy people who need to multitask.
